It was During the iPad Keynote in April 2010 when CEO of Apple Steve Jobs, dissed the net book. Jobs stated that Net books are slow, have low quality displays and run 'clunky' PC software. They are just cheap laptops. So he went on and released the iPad, saying that its better than a laptop and smart phone at key tasks. Apple have never released a netbook (or at least for some time) because Steve Jobs just doesn't like them.

Then on the Back To The Mac keynote in October 2010, Steve Jobs released the new Mac Book Air. Boasting of its specs.
*11.6 and 13.3 inch LED back lit displays
*1366x768 resolution (11 inch version)
*2.3 pounds
*Core 2 Duo Processor
*Nvidia GeForce 320m graphics
*Multi Touch Trackpad
*Face Time Camera
US$999 will buy you a 64gb 1.4GHz Mac book Air while $1199 will give you 128gb. All models have 2gb or ram and Nvidia Ge-force 320m graphics cards.
This is a very small and mobile little thing that exceeds even some bigger 15 inch laptops like the weight and the very impressive 1366x768 screen resolution.
So here is my opinion on all of this. To me the 11 inch version is Apple's net book. with no diskdrive, small screen and a compromised 1.4GHz processor. This isn't even a small notebook, its a netbook with an picture of a fruit on it. The Air also lacks in ports, 2 USB ports and no SD card slot, which is one of its biggest downfalls.
Most of the netbook consumers are purchasing then because they want to take something small and mobile on holiday. Check their E-Mail, browse the web, copy photos from their digital cameras. Therefore it is common sense to have an SD card slot. Do you really want to pack multiple SD cards into your camera case or forget to pack your USB cable?
If you are looking to buy this laptop (netbook), my advice would be to have another look at the entry level MacBook or (especially) the MacBook Pro, or even an iPad.
