As Wired magazine released on their website, Apple has put in a request to its Asian partner Foxconn to produce the second generation within 100 days, heading for April 2011.
Digitimes also reports that Foxconn was sent plans to ship the iPad 2 by February 2011, with its first shipment somewhere between 400,000 and 600,000 units, Digitimes' sources also believe in a release in April 2011.
Apple likes to have a schedule to update their products. As CNET tells in their latest Apple Byte Segment of their half an hour Tech Review YouTube video. Such as iPhone's and iPod's have a yearly update, iMacs every seven months, and every six months for Macbooks. So would the iPad want to stay uniform with the other iOS devices and head towards a yearly update? Apple did release the current iPad in April so that is another fact behind Digitimes' and Wired's sources.
Wired Magazine also reports that Asian websites are posting pictures of supposedly iPad 2 third party cases. These cases were spotted by Apple fan blogs MacRumors, iLounge and Powerbook Medic, who all spotted common characteristics: a hole for a rear facing camera and a rectangular hole on the bottom right that could cater for an SD card slot. This is all great however i find the rear facing camera a bit pointless unless their is a front facing camera as well, which is impossible to tell in these pictures. You would only need a camera on an iPad for facetime. Imagine if you are leaving for a holiday and your wife asks you if you have the camera. You reply with "ill use the iPad". its like buying lamb for a sausage sizzle. It can do the same thing the sausages (cameras) can do, but its not the same.
More rumors you ask? Digitimes again reports of asian company Largen supplying the lenses for iPads. Another hint towards the camera. Largen Precision has worked for Apple before manufacturing the lenses for the iPhone 4. It is rumored that the front facing camera would be 3 megapixels and the rear will be 5 megapixels. iPad 2 has also been speculated to have a USB port on the side and a retina display however there are no facts to back these theories up.
One more rumor for you. On September 26 Gizmodo posted a copy of the Patent Apple submitted of a landscape 30-pin dock connector. Which is extra convenience for iPad owners.
Before i go i just want to share this tweet that Steve Jobs posted on twitter, just to punch us tech sites in the face.
