2010 is just a couple of weeks away. Many of the mobile phone makers, have already set their time tables and are gearing up to launch their high-tech smartphones in the new year. Among the lot, the Nokia N900 mobile phone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and the HTC Bravo seize attention very easily. So the mobile phone market is sure to see some tough competition in 2010.
| The Nokia N900 mobile phone is Nokia’s first venture with the Maemo 5 OS. It is driven by the ARM Cortex A8 600MHz processor, which is the same one incorporated in the Apple iPhone 3GS. This smartphone comes with WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth and GPS abilities. While microSD cards of up to 16GB are supported, there is also a 32GB internal memory. So a whole 48GB of storage space can be had at a time. For the touchscreen lovers, there’s a 3.5″ 800 x 480 pixels screen, all set to obey your finger-tip commands. And for those who prefer a physical keys, there’s a silde out QWERTY keyboard as well. The entertainment features – multimedia player, FM radio, headphone jack and even a TV output are present in this handheld. A Carl-Zeiss 5MP camera has also made its way into this mobile phone. The Nokia N900 smartphone is reckoned to hit markets in January 2010, with contracts and deals from Vodafone. |
| The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mobile phone is an Android based mini-powerhouse. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor has been employed for a super-fast performance. This handheld has a larger touchscreen than the Nokia N900. It measures 4″ across and offers 854 x 480 pixels of resolution. This all-touchscreen device, has no physical keyboard though. Networking abilities are quite similar to the Nokia mobile phone, with support for 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth. GPS is also supported. The built-in camera is an 8MP one. Memory-wise, there’s 1GB on-board and a microSD card slot for a maximum of 8GB card. A multimedia player, an FM radio and a headphone socket are all part of this handheld too. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 can be expected in the market by February 2010. Prices are in the £500 range. |  |
  | The HTC Bravo Smartphone is next in line in the array of top-notch handhelds releasing next year. Powered by the Snapdragon 1GHz processor, this handset is meant for hard-core performance. It sports a 3.7″ AMOLED touchscreen display. Based on the Android platform, this mobile phone shares common ground with Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. You’ll find the high-end regulars like WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, microUSB connectivity and microSD card memory expansion in this gadget too. Additionally, there’s a digital compass as well (like the iPhone 3GS). A media player, FM radio and headphone jack are also equipt. One outstanding ability of this cell phone is that its 5MP camera is capable of capturing 720p videos. The HTC Bravo will appear in the market some time in April 2010. HTC also has the HTC Legend, planned for a March 2010 release. It is quite similar to the HTC Bravo in specs, but employs a Snapdragon 600MHz processor. |
| Google are also planning to launch their very own mobile handset, which has been making off and on appearances in the internet rumour section. However, recently some solid facts about the device were out. The mobile phone, supposedly called Nexus One, is reported to have a 3.7″ AMOLED touch-display phone, driven by a Snapdragon processor (of unknown clock speed). Being a Google handheld, it is quite obvious that it will feature the Android OS, but with some enhanced qualities and a new interface. Some new nifty functions are supposed to be part of this gizmo too, like, Google Goggles, reading of QR codes and more. Here again, the complete networking and entertainment package can be expected. There’s no concrete information regarding release date, price or deals. However, Google’s Nexus One Mobile Phone is speculated to release early in 2010. |  |
All the
mobile handsets mentioned above are definitely something to watch out for. Its going to be war in the mobile phone zone in 2010. Moreover, there were rumours about a new Apple iPhone to come in 2010 as well. However, nothing solid has emerged on this front yet. But surely, you know that Apple is not going to sit quiet, don’t you?
