Details are still a little scarce at the moment, but it has been said that Panasonic will be releasing a new Lumix point and shoot camera next week in the form of the Lumix FX75. The camera will sport a 14-megapixel sensor, Leica 24mm ultra-wide-angle Summicron f/2.2 lens with 5x optical zoom and support HD video in AVCHD Lite format.

It’s always nice when the highlight of a touch-screen camera isn’t the LCD. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX75, for example, has a 3-inch touch-screen LCD, but the main attraction is really the lens: a compact ultrawide-angle 24-120mm-equivalent lens with a maximum aperture of f2.2 and a 5x zoom. The 14-megapixel ultracompact features the company’s Sonic Speed AF system, too, for fast focusing and low shutter lag.

Unlike some previous FX models, this one doesn’t appear to have semimanual or manual shooting modes; it’s a whole lot of automatic and scene modes. Fortunately, Panasonic’s Intelligent Auto is fairly reliable. Enter that mode and you get the full suite of iA features: Power O.I.S. image stabilization, Face Recognition, Face Detection, AF Tracking, Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, and Intelligent Exposure.

A new Motion Deblur option uses the Intelligent ISO Control and Exposure technologies and combines them with the O.I.S. and f2.2 aperture to help reduce blur from hand shake and subject movement. (Since it’s new I can’t comment on its abilities, but it sounds like a combo that’ll work well.) Also included is Panasonic’s Intelligent Resolution technology, which targets outlines, detailed texture areas, and soft gradation in photos and improves them for overall clarity. (This one I have used and it does work.)

 

To complement the high-quality video, the Lumix FX75 also features Dolby Digital Creator to record high-quality audio. For those users who are recording HD video to view on a computer screen, they also have the option to record in Motion JPEG, as well as WVGA (848 by 480) and VGA (640 by 480).

A 3-inch touchscreen hogs the majority of controls on the back, including a neat touch-to-focus function that we think all these little shooters should have, which is augmented by the camera’s AF tracking a subject once selected. Slick. We’re still no big fans of the AVCHD Lite format used here, but Motion JPEG recording is on offer as well, which is kind of nice.

In playback mode, users can drag an image across the screen with their finger to browse the collection of photos, as though it is a page in a book.

Also included is Panasonic’s iA (Intelligent Auto) mode with a new Motion Deblur mode that updates the motion detection (Intelligent ISO Control) and brightness control (Intelligent Exposure) to gain the highest shutter speed possible.

The Power optical image stabilizer (OIS) uses the bright lens to reduce blur created from handshake or the subject moving.

The iA suite of technologies includes: Power OIS, face recognition, face detection, AF Tracking, Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector and Intelligent Exposure.

A Venus Engine HD II image processor incorporates Intelligent Resolution technology to perform the optimum signal processing based on the part for natural clearness with fine details. It also supports super-fast response time. The shutter-release lag time is as short as approximately 0.005 of a second in 1-area AF, and the camera’s quick response makes it easier to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities together with the Sonic Speed AF.

No price or availability just yet, but we know it’ll be at least a month before you can slather the FX75 with loving fingerprints.

Here is where I’d usually tell you when it’ll be available and for how much, but Panasonic as usual didn’t supply that information. My guess is August for $350.

On paper, the FP3 looks like one of the better models in Panasonic’s 2010 lineup. Features include a fairly standard 14.1 megapixel sensor and 4x optical zoom, but there’s a 3-inch LCD touchscreen and 720p HD video packed into this ultra-slim shooter. It’s also compatible with the new super-high-capacity SDXC memory card standard. The more discerning shutterbugs out there may not be happy with the low-light performance, but the rest of us will appreciate the FP3′s small size and intuitive controls.
The newly adopted, 3.0-inch touch screen LCD on the Panasonic Lumix FP3 provides an intuitive control thanks to a hybrid operation combined with the four major operation buttons. The touch-screen operation is fluid and smooth – whether in record or playback mode. After unveiling the Lumix DMC-FZ45 and the FT10, Panasonic has now expanded its range of digital cameras with the new Lumix DMC-FX700.


This digital camera features a 14.1 megapixel sensor, a 24mm ultra wide angle F2.2 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON lens complete with 5x digital zoom which Panasonic says makes the FX700 a perfect solution for low-light conditions and when taking pictures of moving objects. Additionally, it features a 3-inch touch screen LCD for all of your view finding and setting manipulation needs.
But that sure isn’t all, the FX700 also features an optical image stabilizer, making for reduced blur caused by things like shakey hands, and a whole plethora of technologies such as Face Recognition, Face Detection, Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, Intelligent Exposure and AF Tracking.
While all of the above mentioned features are fine and dandy, the thing that really makes the Panasonic Lumix FX700 unique is its ability to capture full 1080p high definition video, exporting it to AVCHD format.
Other features of the Panasonic LUMIX FX700 include:

Panasonic today announced the LUMIX DMC-GF2, the latest of the company’s DSL Micro (DSLM) compact mirrorless cameras, which is Panasonic’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens system camera – complete with a built-in flash. The LUMIX GF2 is compatible with lenses from the Micro Four Thirds standard, meaning the system is small and compact, while not compromising ease of operation or image quality. Even more, the LUMIX GF2 is compatible with Panasonic’s new 3D interchangeable lens, the LUMIX G 12.5mm / F12, so users can take 3D photos.


You’ll also find a three-inch touchpanel on the rear, contrast AF system, a freshly designed Touch Q user interface, internal dust reduction system and the ability to record video at 1920 x 1080/60i or 1280 x 720/60p in AVCHD. Better still, lower resolution options are available with Motion JPEG recording, and the 23-area focusing system shouldn’t have a difficult time nailing your subject.
The LUMIX GF2 is extremely easy to operate for consumers at any level, thanks to a newly- designed user interface, which allows for the focus to be set, or shutter released, by simply touching the large 3-inch touch-screen LCD. The touch-screen LCD with a 460,000-dot-resolution makes taking great photos intuitive. Once a user locks on a subject by touch, the LUMIX GF2 tracks the subject with the AF tracking function, even if the subject moves – making it easy to take photos of moving subjects, like children playing. The contrast AF system adopted by the LUMIX DMC-GF2 is not only accurate and easy to use, but also very fast. Users can choose from a wide range of AF (Auto Focus) modes, including multiple-area AF with up to 23 focus areas, 1-area AF with a selectable focus area, Face Detection, and AF Tracking.

The touch operation also dramatically shortens the time spent navigating the menus. With the LUMIX GF2′s newly-designed Touch Q-menu, the user can customize the camera’s shortcuts with the most commonly used settings. Together with the simple button components, including dedicated buttons for video recording and iA (Intelligent Auto) mode which lights in-use, users can operate the camera intuitively with ease. With the Intelligent Scene Selector in the iA mode, the camera automatically switches to the appropriate mode according to the subject touched. For example, a touch on a human face switches to the portrait mode and a touch on the background or scenery switches to the scenery mode, while a touch on the subject close to the camera switches to the close-up mode. With the MF assist mode for manual focusing, users can enlarge the subject by just a touch to select 1x, 5x or 10x and smoothly move the subject by dragging it on the screen. In iA mode and the Peripheral Defocus mode, the range of defocus can be adjusted by just moving the slider with a finger, something not possible with larger more complicated DSLR cameras that don’t feature touch control.
Panasonic’s Venus Engine FHD enables Intelligent Resolution technology, which means that three areas – outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation – are automatically detected. Then, the outline parts are enhanced effectively to give edges more clearness while giving a moderate accentuation to the texture areas to look more finely detailed. To the soft gradation part, noise reduction system is applied to make it smoother. Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, the innovative technology Intelligent Resolution precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel, resulting in images that are naturally clear and crisp in both video and photos. The 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor featured in the LUMIX GF2 offers the best of both worlds – the superb image quality of a CCD sensor, plus the lower power consumption of a CMOS sensor.
All of Panasonic’s LUMIX G-Series DSLM cameras are equipped with the highly-efficient Dust Reduction System. If dust gets inside the camera when the user changes lenses, it could cling to the image sensor and show up as a spot in photos. The Dust Reduction System helps to reduce this risk by placing a supersonic wave filter in front of the Live MOS sensor. Vibrating vertically around 50,000 times per second, the filter repels dust and other particles.The LUMIX GF2 shoots professional-quality full High Definition (HD) videos as well as handling still photography. The LUMIX GF2 can record 1920 x 1080 videos at 60i or smooth HD 1280 x 720 movies at 60p in AVCHD. The new Panasonic Lumix GF1 may have just stolen my heart. I was set to get the Olympus EP1 but now I’m having second thoughts.
Given that there’s been so much new camera activity lately – both in DSLR and compact market areas, as well as the recent launch of the Olympus E-P1, this is apparently some detail on a forthcoming LX3 replacement.
